Galati County Council
Galati
County Council is the authority of the local public administration that
coordinates the activity of the commune, city and municipal councils, with a
view to carrying out public services of interest within the Galati County,
including education, culture, tourism, as well as domestic and foreign
interinstitutional cooperation.
The Galati
County Council is composed of 34 county councillors elected by universal,
equal, direct, secret and freely expressed suffrage, under the law for the
election of local public administration authorities. The county council
shall be completed with the chairman of the county council, also elected
under the law for the election of local public administration authorities,
who shall have the right to vote and conduct its meetings. The president of
the Galati County Council and the county counsellors are elected for a
four-year term which is carried out under the law.
The
executive apparatus of Galati County Council consists of six directorates,
three services and four compartments. The six specialised committees in the
Council are organised by areas of activity. The specialized directorates of
the Council are made up of professionals from various fields:
administrative, economic, technical, project management.
The
Council's managerial capacity has often been demonstrated by the successful
implementation of numerous projects, both with own funding and funding from
various sources.

Presentation of Galati County
Galati
County is located in the southeast of Romania, at the confluence of the
Danube with two major rivers - Siret and Prut - being relatively close to
the Black Sea. On an area of 4,466.3 km2, Galati County is composed of 65
localities and a population of about 627,000 inhabitants. The most important
urban settlement at the county level is represented by the county residence
municipality, Galati.

theatres and museums, historical relics and famous people.
A special
landmark that can be found near the cliff is "Precista fortified Church",
which is architecturally one-of-a-kind in this part of the country through
its inner fortifications.

circuit in Galati County can be described as a foray between past and
present.
"Paul
Paltanea" Museum of History
in the municipality of Galati is the holder of a heritage of inestimable
value, totalling more than 60,000 assets constituted in collections of
archaeology, numismatics, ethnography, philately, medallions, decorative
arts, old and rare books, sigillography, cold-steel and fire weapons,
documents, photos, clichés and films. Valuable exhibits are also presented
to the public in specially designed spaces at the History Museum's
headquarters or in one of its sections.
"Casa
Cuza Voda" Museum
in Galati municipality is located on the site of the former residence of
the family of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, in a building built in the first decades
of the 19th century. Furniture from the most representative styles of the
era, decorative European pieces, objects that belonged to local and national
personalities, all take you to the famous hosts of old. In such an
atmosphere, the proper environment to manifestations that became tradition
was created, reminiscent of the cultural soirees of yore, which impose a
city normality of European rank.
The
"House of Collections" Museum
(former Tinc pharmacy) hosts interior ambient exhibitions and memorial
collections, among which the "George Makşay" collection - Royal Court
supplier and luxury photographer of Galati - and the "Smaranda Braescu"
collection - the first patented female paratrooper in Romania. The building,
built in 1900, was intended as a pharmacy, and at the upper levels was the
home of pharmacist Constantin Tinc and space allocated to the attending
personnel.
"Hortensia
Papadat Bengescu" House
in the commune of Ivesti hosts the exhibition "Ivesti Personalities",
which contains documentary materials and objects that belonged to the prose
writer and to prominent members of the culture and history of Iveşti. The
house was built between 1872 and 1874, where writer Hortensia Papadat
Bengescu lived for a period of her life.
"Ion
Avram-Dunareanu" Rural House
in Suhurlui commune hosts the "Traditional Peasant Ambient" exhibition,
which recomposes the characteristic interior of village world by preserving
the specific features of Romanian culture and the scientific exploitation of
cultural ethnographic items. The ethnography collection of the Galati
History Museum exceeds a thousand cultural items and consists of: fabrics,
tools and instruments used in the practice of weaving, iron and wood
processing, objects reminiscent of the basic occupations of the village
world, such as land cultivation, animal husbandry, as well as objects of
worship.
"Costache
Negri" Memorial House
in Costache Negri commune is located in the mansion that belonged to the
family of the great patriot. When stepping on the museum threshold, the
visitor enters a specific, 19th century atmosphere of the. Furniture and
decorative art pieces from famous European styles, paintings, photographs
and documents relevant to the life and work of Costache Negri can be found
in the seven exhibition halls.
The
Lapidarium
section presents collections of archaeology, Romanian and European
environment, traditional civilization.
The
Museum of Visual Art in Galati is also an extremely popular tourist
attraction, being the first Romanian museum of "contemporary art" to present
to the public important works from different periods bearing the signatures
of famous artists. The museum was inaugurated in 1967 and contains an
impressive number of heritage works, that are regularly used in exhibitions
organized by the institution. At the same time, the museum also organizes
temporary exhibitions, creation camps and other types of events that promote
Romanian and universal art and cultural values.
Art
harmoniously mingled with nature in Galati, including
"Rasvan Angheluta" Museum Complex of Natural Sciences. It was founded
in 1990 and comprises a variety of sections.
The Museum
Section of the Museum Complex offers for visitation to the public, through
permanent or temporary exhibitions, important collections of geology,
mineralogy, Ichthyology and biology, which total more than 60,000 scientific
pieces.
The
aquarium is located at the semibasement of the Museum Complex building
and comprises an impressive collection of fish species from the basin of the
Lower Danube River, the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the tropical
freshwater ichthyofauna. In short, a living world depicted in a wide range
of shapes, colours and sizes.
The
Botanical Garden
is a fascinating place, full of colour and floristic diversity, a relaxing
place where you actually feel like you are loading up on energy, an oasis of
tranquillity on an area of 18 hectares.
The
astronomical observatory
is the largest and most modern observatory in Romania. Equipped with a
roll-off roof and telescope, it allows solar and nocturnal astronomical
observations, and the projection room offers tourists the opportunity to
imaginarily travel to all corners of the universe.
The Zoo,
located in the Garboavele Forest, Tuluceşti Commune, is home to a varied
collection of animal, mammal and bird species from several geographical
regions of the world (Europe, Asia and Africa).
Soon, the
Complex’s offer will be complemented by a greenhouse for tropical plants and
a permanent exhibition for the Prut-Danube fishing area where, with the help
of technology, visitors can take a virtual flight over the Prut and Danube
Floodplain.
Hitting
the road through the county, steps take you both to the imposing houses of
worship from Tudor Vladimirescu and Buciumeni, as well as to
"Teodor Cincu" History Museum in Tecuci. The museum holds the most
significant part of the archaeological heritage discovered at Poiana, the
ancient fortress of Piroboridava. The building itself is an architectural
monument, being built in the second half of the 19th century by an Italian
architect. The museum currently houses Neolithic, Bronze Age (Monteoru
ceramics), the Iron Age (supply ships), warehouses of Dacian ornaments and
weapons (4th 3rd centuries BC), a hoard of coins issued by the Fortress of
Callatis, of gilded bronze (3rd century BC) and many more worth seeing.
The
building that today houses the Museum of Christian History, Culture and
Spirituality on the Lower Danube
was built at the end of the 19th century and was inaugurated as the
Episcopal Palace in 1901. The museum holds a spectacular collection of
garments, holy vessels, books and other personal objects of the lower Danube
hierarchies, original liturgical pieces, icons, paintings etc.
But Galati
also means theatre or musical festivals for all ages: puppet performances
for children, comedy, opera and operetta, as well as folklore and fanfare.
